Clare spent several happy years living in Cornwall. It was here that she began exploring the resonance between the figure and landscape. Placing the female form within rock lines and on cliff tops, marks a natural progression from her previous figure/interior series. The echo between female form and organic line guides composition and tension.
The use of dynamic colour and loose mark marking creates a poised contradiction of expectation and peace. Clare is particularly interested in the internal dialogue each individual has with the sea - a common questioning that that we all feel when greeting the ocean.
